Obligation #AtoZChallenge2025

Our team theme this year is our blogging community, gratitude, or being grateful for our blogging community.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by what I need to do in a day. Sometimes it would be easier to just stop blogging altogether. But I feel this sense of obligation to those who read my posts – especially those who engage with it. This isn’t a bad thing: I need that sense of knowing what I write is being read and enjoyed by others to keep me on track.

So thanks to everyone who has stopped by my blog this month and read (and commented on!) my posts.

What keeps you blogging when energy/time/motivation is lagging?

I once read the statement of a film star. After some years and films, it is the appreciation of spectators that keeps one going. It is same in blogging. Readers who keep coming to your blogs keep you motivated to continue further.

Although I write to get things straight in or to get them out of my head, and that writing is cast forth with no guarantee of ever being read, the comments of others do mostly occur and they are certainly balm, manna and even fertiliser...

I enjoy blogging. Writing my book reviews helps me to remember more about the books I have read. When others express appreciation of my recommendations, that is a bonus. And I do sometimes blog about other things than books! https://suestrifles.wordpress.com/2025/04/17/authors-beginning-with-o/

I use my blogs as diaries and don't adhere to a rigid schedule (except during April!)

I have multiple blogs for multiple reasons. I started blogging in 2006 when I was a new widow, selling everything, and hitting the road as a full-time RVer. The blog was for family & friends, a way to keep in touch.

Now I blog for a history of where we've been, what we've done, etc. My author website no longer has a blog, that has fallen out of favor with readers, so I no longer waste my time and energy trying to get people to interact.

I do find what the advent of social media that blogs are read less often and commented on ever less. But I still blog...

Being recently widowed and having vaccine related maladies that are just now receding, I try to find at least one thing in a day that is better than the last, or at least a positive. It's been a rough 6 years, but I'm starting to swim instead of just treading water! And it's a good thing!

I wish I could say I blogged faithfully all year round but I don't....I do my best to get here for this month because it's important to me and this is what motivates me and makes me think wow, if I can do it for one month every day why can't I do it for one year every month at least one post? I guess it's those Obstacles = Opportunities that I have to look for.
Cheers,

I try to be consistent in blogging, kind of an obligation to myself at least in April .. https://www.ladyinreadwrites.com/the-opposite-of-the-otherworldly-and-one-more/

I use the blog for many reasons - to encourage me to do research, to create, to review - and when energy for one is lacking, I tap into a different one.
