How many pages have you read this year? In India, people spend about 10 hours a week reading. The A to Z challenge has always been predominantly authors and book reviewers, all who make excellent sources for recommending pages to read.
For those of you who enjoy participating in challenges with your fellow bloggers (I have a feeling that's most of you), and would like some extra page-turning motivation, allow me to suggest a few blogs:
The Herd Presents posted some year-long challenges in December, and adds a few more every now and then.
Wishful Endings has the Tackle Your TBR (to be read) challenge, which is in September.
Bout of Books starts on May 14, right after the A to Z challenge.
Feed Your Fiction Addiction has an extensive list.
Need some books?
If you read New Adult fiction (main characters are mostly ages 18 to 25), there's the New Adult Scavenger Hunt in June and December. If you prefer Young Adult fiction (main characters are mostly ages 14 to 18), there's the YA Scavenger Hunt - one just happened, but another comes around in October.
Are you hosting a reading challenge on your blog? Have you ever participated in a reading challenge?

The A to Z team recommends TimeAndDate or WorldTimeBuddy for your time zone calculation needs.
We post at Midnight GMT.
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the standard by which all time zones are based. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is the time zone used for UTC. That's why we use it.

There's a Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge that goes throughout the year. You can join in anytime. I've done it before and it's a good motivator to sit down and read a book each week.

ReplyDeleteJ Lenni,
ReplyDeleteIt's a challenge just to read a long post for me forget a novel. Although, a nice think book is excellent for pressing flowers. That's about all I find need for one these days and even flower pressing isn't on the top of my list lately. I hope some day to get pulled back into a make-believe world where I'm transported to anyplace, anytime without leaving my home. Heck, I can even read the device I'm using in this challenge to sketch. That being said, let me invite y'all to join me for my latest A2Z iPad Art Sketch of the day. P is for Prince Charming and His Princess Cinderella.
~Curious as a Cathy
Ah, fair enough.
DeleteOut of my own curiosity, are audiobooks any better? I'm never sure who to recommend those to.
I have not participated in a reading challenge but what a great idea! I read every night anyway so might as well add a little fun to it. Thanks for the suggested blogs to check out some challenges.

You're welcome!
DeleteI am not sure why I am missing it but I can't seem to find the P post in Facebook for Blogging from A to Z April Challenge. Can someone please send me a link?

DeleteThere was an Internet issue which prevented our Wordpress blog from backing up this post, which is what prevented the other service from posting the link to Facebook. Terribly sorry for that.

I have participated in a number of kid lit reading and writing challenges. They give me the incentive and encouragement I need.
ReplyDeleteFor the readers out there - my theme this year is Literary Maps. Stop by if you have a chance.

DeleteI've done maybe two or three challenges as well as A to Z since 2014 - unless you count the 100k in 100 days Challenge on Facebook, which I've done about as long. (Oh, and NaNoWriMo.)
ReplyDeleteAs for reading, I stick to the year-long Goodreads challenge as I can set my own target.
https://rolandclarke.com/2018/04/18/p-is-for-perfect-world/ is my today's P post.
I, too, enjoy the Goodreads one.
DeleteWhat was first? The phoenix or the ashes? We don't have the answer to that, but we include some details about the fabulous bird. Here is my entry for P: "P is for Phoenix", in which I tell you about this mythological and marvelous D&D monster.

I read copious amounts but only did the reading challenges as a kid.
