Mario Packs for Cuban Research Excursion

Mario has his passport and a ticket. He's decided to travel to Cuba to soak up some colonial atmosphere, so he can "encourage" me to branch out in my settings for stories.

This Road Trip is going to involve a couple of planes, but once on the ground, Mario's cruising in his Mariomobile.

The Mariomobile. Did you notice it's pink?

He's listed Finca Vigia as one of his first stops. It's about 12Ks outside of Havana and used to be Hemmingway's hideout. He wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls and Old Man and Sea here.

He's going to take a camera, so I'll have pictures to refer to while writing the next For Whom the Bell Tolls. Have you been to or wanted to go to Cuba? Any place(s) you'd like to go to soak up settings? Would travel be a theme you'd consider for April 2016?

  1. Hi Lee - I think Cuba would be really interesting I've some friends who went a few years ago. My A-Z theme is decided and it's not travel ... or Cornwall! Cheers Hilary

  2. I dig the pink. If I ever make it to Cuba I want to try the food. I hear it is amazing.

    1. You and me both. I have two more continents to land on, then I've been to all of them.

    1. As long a swimming is only necessary once I've landed. :-)

  6. Bon Voyage to Mario! ☺ His car fits right in. Cuba has long been a vacation mecca for Canadians and I have several friends who've been there and enjoyed it. It's not on my bucket list, but would be worth a visit if given the chance, especially in the dead of winter. Hemingway fascinates me, so trips to Key West and Cuba would be interesting. The most beautiful settings I've seen are in Greece, with Italy a close second.
My 2014 A-Z theme was Travel & Culture. I might consider it as a theme again down the line, but not for 2016.

  7. I did a travel-related theme in 2014, and would love to do one again someday. I'm still planning a trip to Iran for firsthand research for the Iranian chapters and sections of my third Russian historical, so the future third draft can have a few more authentic details.

  8. I have on occasion written about Cuba on my blogs. It's a place that has fascinated me since the 60's when I was still in high school. I'd like to go, but my wife has express no interest whatsoever in going there.

    1. My husband's the same way. He's not going with me on this one, so I've left him in charge of the Thanksgiving turkey. Good grief. We may be in trouble here.
