Google +
Google + is a lot like Facebook. It’s the status room, where you share what’s on your mind, interesting links (yours and others), and photos etc. It’s also the chat room, where you can engage in conversations with people.
It’s easy to link individual blog posts there, but this is not the place to permanently link your blogs, so people know where to find you, especially if you’re sharing other links from all over the web, and updating your status from time to time.
Google Profiles
Google Profiles are where you share permanent information – everything from your birthday, marital status, education history and permanent links to your blogs, websites, what have you.
People get to your Google Profile by clicking on your Google +. Once on your Google +, they have the option to click on your “About” section, which is where your blog links and other information is shared.
So be sure and fill out your Google Profile, complete with all your blog links, so people can easily find your blog, and thus be able to comment on it! You never know, it might be you who needs to return the favor if they do.

I struggle to find the blogs of those who've linked to their Google+ account for that very reason. Sometimes they have so many links listed, I don't know what to click.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this explaination! I mentioned on my blog this week how difficult I am finding Google+ to navigate and received many comments saying the same.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for google plus but no one really uses it, not like FB, so I removed everything I could from mine. Plus one of my blog comments during A-Z got automatically published to my Google plus somehow and my cyberstalker found it and came after me with a vitriolic diatribe on what a loser I am. So I had to get rid of everything on google plus.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad this post is proving helpful to people. I always visit the "About" page, when I get directed to Google+, and it's very frustrating when there are no blog links to find there.

Well, dare I say I don't use Facebook nor do I use any of the google goodies.
ReplyDeleteWhat little time I have out here I refuse to waste searching for a blog. If I can't find it easily then I move on. Really, time is too precious.
So how do I find people - I have a blog roll for a reason - when I log on to my blog I can easily see what's going on with the blogs I follow and enjoy.
Maybe that's why people are turning away from blogging - it's too much like work - when it was meant to be fun.

Yep, I'm not really into this Google plus thingy. Anyone who wants to re-visit my blog will certainly not have to go through that!

ReplyDeleteAlso, people need to understand that when they share their blog posts on G+ they need to make it "Public" for everyone to find it.
If I'm not in their circles, there's no way I can find their blog posts unless they have filled up their link on the profile page.
I hold my hands up in despair. Enough said.

This is exactly why I haven't opted to connect my blog with Google plus - the whole thing's so annoying.
ReplyDeleteFunny enough I love Google+ it has helped the blog(s) a great deal. But I think to make it all work you really need to embrace Google and wave the flag.

Sorry. I'm one of those bloggers people struggle to find. I don't know how to fix it. Usually I get around it if the comments ID feature allows me to post my name and web address, but when the ID requires you to be logged onto Google or open ID, it's a problem.

Do you mean to disable your blog listing from your G+ account? If so, click on your avatar in the upper right corner while in Google+. Click Account. Then click Edit Profile. Scroll down the page to the section you want, probably Links. Near the bottom of that box marked Links is an Edit link. Click Edit. This is where you will delete the links you don't want to appear on your G+ profile. Click Save when you're done.
