Robert Ettinger, founder of the cryogenics movement, has died (at least for now) about eighteen months ago at the age of 92. Cryogenics is the process of freezing your head or your entire body in hopes science will one day figure out a way to bring you back from the dead. Ettinger will join his two wives (what was he thinking???) and his mother in frozen limbo.
The facility is in Clinton Township, Michigan. Over 100 human corpses are floating in the gentle giant capsules filled with liquid nitrogen in hopes of one day living again. Nobody knows for sure whether we can ever restore consciousness frozen bodies, but cryopreservation is a phenomenon present in the animal kingdom and effective medical technology.
Many livestock have developed tricks to survive temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, accounting and after periods of paralysis caused by frost. And scientists have made important progress in freezing living tissue and even of whole organs for medical purposes.
The minimum price that the airline claims for his services is 28,000 dollars. Other organizations charge for customers and amounts up to $ 200,000 and offers the possibility of "neuroprezervării" instead of full body freeze, freezing heads may require only interested in the idea that personality and memories are stored in the brain and loaded into a computer or an artificial body in the future.
One obstacle to overcome is frozen ice crystals within the bloodstream are very sharp. They can actually cut tissue and blood vessels, causing sever damage that make it difficult preserving vital parts of the human body.
Question: Do you think this process of cryogenics is actually a possibility? Can we freeze our heads or bodies in hopes that one day technology will enable us to one day live again?

I think anyone who considers having this done to their body is mad. Why would they want to live again with the same body or same head or same brain. The exciting thing about reincarnation is that we get to start again from scratch. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteEveryone said he was a nice chap, but he always seemed a bit frosty and cold to me.

Just the head is weird.
ReplyDeleteBesides, if you die, your soul leaves. What will be in those bodies if they are brought back to life?
I'm with Alex all the way. I'm ready to meet Jesus today, Life, though Good, is really hard. Our economy is messed up, "fools who march to win the right to justify their sin, while every nation that is broken, is broken from within" (that's a song I love by Scott Wesley Brown) Have NO desire to come back to this planet...

I think anything is possible, but not always practical or right. The concept seems pretty weird for now.

I really don't think that will ever truly be possible. And anyway, I wouldn't want to be awakened in the future and have everything and everyone I ever knew, long gone.
ReplyDeleteEwwww...
ReplyDeleteI'm both horrified and fascinated by this. Actually, it made me think of plot ideas by just reading it. lol
Personally, I think spending my eternity praising God, where "there will be no more tears" (or cold shoulders) seems quite a bit more appealing than this. Life has its cycle, and when mine is said and done, I'll be happy to move onto the next phase. Doubt I'll go straight to heaven, but I don't plan on ending up in hell either, so it's all good.
ReplyDeleteI plan on being a butterfly-somewhere warm
ReplyDeleteI'm joking...
This stuff is odd, but interesting!
I think it makes great info for writing ;D
I'm just more surprised that this place is just down the road from me and I never knew about it!! Within 15 miles or so.
ReplyDeleteI personally wouldn't want to come back once I was dead, but if I died of some rare disease and science wanted to freeze me and use my parts to try to cure this disease on other people, fine.
Thanks everyone for stopping by. This is a fun topic to discuss. Person ally when my time comes I know where I'm going. Id hats to show up at the Pearly Gates without a head.
ReplyDeleteI think most of these people have missed the point, no use freezing dead bodies, because they are DEAD. I believe it would be possible one day to preserve a live person this way. If they have a major illness, they could be revived when we know how to cure it. But sorry, once you are dead, you are dead. That's how I see it anyway.
ReplyDeleteJO ON FOOD, MY TRAVELS AND A SCENT OF CHOCOLATE
Does any one like to be frozen alive ( I mean become unconscious before they get frozen) When they get dfrosted a whole century has passed?
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would sign up for that. Who wants to live forever? Not me, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephen .. I suspect not. But at least someone's prepared to try ...
ReplyDeleteCheers - if that's appropriate here! - Hilary
The science isn't up to anything successful just yet. I'd say it is a waste of money. Alex C. is absolutely correct.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't like closed spaces and hate the heat!
ReplyDeleteIn science, sometimes the apparent impossible becomes possible. I mean, did Victorians really imagine a mobile phone or even a computer? Who knows what the future could bring...
ReplyDeleteAh, I neglected once again to end this post with who I am. It looks like an anonymous post. Hate it when that happens. I just my brief bio.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it's possible or not. But my favorite cryogenics story is the one when the Golden Girls all have their heads frozen. Sophia is the only one who tipped the scientist and got her head put onto a 20 year old body. Poor Dorothy, Rose & Blanch were just talking heads.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think this will ever be possible to the point that the person could live again.
ReplyDeleteThat said, even if it were, I would never be interested.
This is not something I'd ever consider doing. It's not because I'm not a follower of organized religion. It's not because I was never that good of a science student. It's because one lifetime on this earth is enough for me.
ReplyDeleteSo many backward thinkers...150 yrs ago you were dead if your heart stopped now we use CPR and Defibulators to bring people back. I guess if we all were traditionalists like I see here posting we wouldn't have CPR or Defibulators because that would be considered mad or you cant bring back the dead or what about your soul etc etc etc. People have a real hard time understanding chance and the future until it hits them in the face LOL
