Has this year seemed to be going extraordinarily fast for anyone else besides me?
We've hit July and that means we're at the top of the roller coaster and on the downhill side. Yikes! There's a wild ride ahead with summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere) wrapping up and a parade of holiday seasons to follow. Many schools start back in August now. So much for those long drawn out summers like I used to have when I was a kid.
Before we know it Halloween will be history and cooler weather will be gusting in--a welcome respite for many who have been experiencing record high temperatures this year. I'd say more than a few are looking forward to snow and colder weather.
Of course that colder weather brings NaNo November for the writers, Thanksgiving for those who love to eat, and all of the December holidays for all of the rest of us. And then it's another year--2013! The next A to Z is just around the corner it seems.
Maybe we need to slow down and get back to July. Oh, sure, we can keep stimulating the A to Z brain for ideas for next year. Perhaps a few of you will even start writing a few posts as flashes of inspiration hit you. That's fine, but that flying time has got to be grounded.
How about a walk on a mountain trail? Head for a glacier I'd say. Or bask at the beach if the sun and salt spray is your thing. Drift on a lake or down a river in a canoe or kayak. Visit the zoo or an air conditioned museum. And speaking of AC, there's always the mall. So much to do and a lot of it can be found right close to home.
Of course, you could do like I'll be doing for the next few weeks. My wife and I will be driving cross-country to spend a few days with a daughter in Houston, Texas and then heading on for a few days with relatives in Orlando, Florida. With about eight 12-15 hour driving days and other days filled with family activities, I have a feeling that I won't be doing too much on the computer during that time.
And here I thought I was going to be doing some serious writing this month of July. Well, there is August. I hope I can manage to keep that month under more control.
Hope you're having a great summer--or winter if that's what it's like where you are.
What are your summer plans? Anybody just staying around the house and doing things there? Are you going anyplace unusual? Are you ready to do an A to Z Blog guest post? Let us know if you are. We've got some open dates to fill.
This year is going by at a tremendous pace , we'll soon be thinking of the A to Z again soon, though I have a brief outline of my theme done.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Yvonne.
Yet another great start...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Journey and time with daughter and relatives, waiting to hear from you on that trip in the coming blogs. Altogether beautiful experiences yet to come :-)
Keep inform
Keep posting
Phil
Ever since I retired time has been zipping along at a horrific pace.
ReplyDeleteNo travelling for us this year...this is the summer of redecorating. We are in a mess right now as the contents of the living room are redistributed around the house while we prepare for paint and carpet.
Take a deep breath...slow down...you still have the rest of summer. Don't rush tomorrow. But then I can be so philosophical, I live in the tropics. :)
ReplyDeleteWe will be doing our usual trip to North Carolina in September in order to stuff ourselves on fresh seafood as well as catch up with good friends.
ReplyDeleteHave to remind you Lee, for us turkey day is in October.
Have a fun time with you daughter.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation!! And yes you can write little bits here and there. And think of the characters you can store away.
ReplyDeleteT
Driving all the way across country - you are one brave man.
ReplyDeleteHope you get some writing done along the way though.
We're staying local but are saving for a trip to Michigan/Ohio to see family, then a Disney Cruise later. But for now, we are enjoying local events and having fun doing that.
ReplyDeleteyes i so agree--it is speeding along---enjoy your travels--we hope to take a couple of days in the early off beach season--other than that, no plans really--just seems like extra church stuff :)
ReplyDeleteThis year has been light-speed for me. 9 days went by and I didn't get to my blog or anyone else's, nor much of my ridiculously stuffed inbox of email. Just trying to find the house after leaving three men alone for 8 days. Finally have things under control enough that when my cleaning girl arrives in 45 minutes, she'll be able to find the floor and the counters...
ReplyDeleteAs to vacations, I've done a week in VA with my brother, his wife and first baby. A week in TX with my "sister", we're such close friends, and the last week in July I leave for a week's cruise of the Alaskan Inside Passage with C for her 50th birthday. it's for me too, we share the same birthday, only I have three more years until 50. Talk about light speed...
Lee, enjoy your time off. I'll be babysitting the blog, and get some relaxation in. I found that on road trips it was nice to jot off a quick post of what happened that day. Of course, there was always the race between my mac and The Engineer's PC to see who got internet access first. He has NEVER won, and I've never had to go to the front desk for help, or had to give up. Go Apple!

Post A-Z Road trip!
I've been trying to stay in July and get more work done, but with the wildfires and the heat and then the rain, I'm too tempted each afternoon by my comfy couch. Cooler temps starting around October sound pretty nice.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the warm weather down in Houston and Orlando! Should be nice with the upcoming warm fronts.
ReplyDeleteJackson Hole, Wyoming for us. A beautiful area with something for everyone. The Grand Tetons are amazing and the town is good for people watching too.
ReplyDeleteNow that the 4th of July is behind us, time's gonna fly till Christmas. January is always my fave month because it seems to last the longest.
ReplyDeleteYvonne -- Maybe I'll plan my next A to Z themes on my trip.
ReplyDeletePhil -- Thanks for the thoughts.
Delores -- Sounds like you've got your hands full.
Em-- I know, but I swear if I took things any slower I'd be dead.
Jo -- Maybe I should celebrate both turkey days. I could handle that.
Teresa -- Hope I get some writing times squeezed in.
Alex -- Believe me, I'm doing this trip mainly for my wife. She needs me to drive.
Stephen -- Local is fine. Staying home would keep me happy.
Lynn -- Plans or no plans life flies by.
Tina -- Fortunate I have blog hijackers to cover me as I travel. And then I can count on you to hold down the A to Z front.
Patricia -- I'm with you on the cooler temps of October. Those fires are crazy.
King Daddy -- Houston and Florida are not my favorite summer destinations.
LoverofWords-- The Tetons and Jackson Hole are beautiful summer destinations. I wouldn't mind that trip.
JoJo -- I agree that January seems longest, but the older I get the faster it all goes.
Lee
Hi Lee .. haven't made any plans - except for a brief trip north - flying over London and the Olympics from the south! - to meet up with some old friends I haven't seen for ages - for a celebration of a life .. I'm looking forward to it - a short completely different break .. on a golf course, by the north sea with some excellent friends ..
ReplyDeleteAfter that I take stock for the future .. Life is running away though .. and I must remember to stop and smell the roses ..
Cheers - Hilary
