Our guest today is Lynn Rush who blogs at Catch the Rush. The 2012 Challenge will be a first for her but she's ready to go. In this post she explains her strategy.
Hey there, everyone. Lynn Rush here.
I’ve never participated in an A to Z challenge, but I tell ya, it sounds SUPER FUN!
When I saw a blogging/writing friend of mine participate in this last year, I was like, “Holy Cow, how do they think of something to write every day like that?”
That was back when I was posting only four to five days a week, and the thought of adding a couple of days kind of freaked me out.
But deep down, it must have inspired me, because I started posting daily shortly after.
I’m often asked how I think of topics for blogging seven days a week. The main thing is: Themes.
I have Movie Quotes, This Writer’s Journey, Throwback Thursday, Photos (sunsets, angels, etc) and we occasionally do a Debate This discussion and Cinema Sound Off. The rest of the days I just do whatever comes to mind.
So, when I decided to jump into the A to Z blog adventure, I decided I’d do something with music. Besides movies, music is WAY up there on the scale of things that motivate & inspire me, so what better topic to blog about?
Writing about things I love is fun. I think that’s really important, because if not, then blogging is more like a chore than an exciting, interactive adventure with your readers.
Now, I have to admit, I might sneak in a few non-music related posts since my next novel is releasing May 1st (I kind of need to mention that, right? LOL) but other than that, I’m stoked to write about music each and every day of this awesome blog event. I’ve even started finding musicians to feature.
X and Z…those will be a bit challenging, but I already have a few ideas! **LOL**
What are some of the things you guys are thinking of writing about during your A to Z adventure?
Lynn Rush's newest book Awaited will be released in May 2012. For more information be sure to visit Lynn's site.
Well I won't be revealing my idea. I guess you'll just have to wait and see on April 1st! But it's much shorter, is something that I love to do, and hopefully will be entirely unique to what anyone else will do!

Awesome Duncan!!! Looking forward to your blogging! :). Have a super day!!
DeleteHi, Lynn! Theme posts are always fun during the A-Z Challenge. A music theme is a great one! Learning something new and interesting is one of the best things about this blogfest!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Lynn, after hearing your voice here I'm even happier that I'm reading your book #2! You sound such at ease with blogging. I love how you highlight writing about what you love. That does make it a ton easier. I use themes, too. My brain needs structure.
ReplyDeleteI dig your movie quotes so looking forward to all the music stuff!
ReplyDeleteHi, Laura. Thanks for stopping by. I'm super excited for this challenge!!! :) AND all the fun, exciting people I'll meet (am meeting!)
ReplyDeleteSA Larsen: Yay!!!! Thank you. I just love blogging. It's super fun. I remember back when I first started I was like, "Really? Blogging? I have to do that?" LOL. Funny how things work out, huh? :)
Alex: THANKS!! Hope you're enjoying your release week and that your book is kicking butt and taking names!!!! :)
Lynn
ReplyDeleteI think these blog challenges are great for people who are starting out, working on different styles of writing, getting inspired by others
In short... good for everyone who loves to write
wishing you the best with your release!!!
Thanks, Moondustwriter! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn: I like using lines from books, newspaper articles, etc. and then writing my own words from there. I am wondering, do any of our hundreds of participants have synesthesia, the ability to visualize letters in colors. Vladimir Nabokov saw letters in colors, and with other languages that he spoke, the letters would be same basic color, but a different shade. Since our challenge is using the alphabet, I was curious.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your posts on music Lynn. I can't believe you blog every day! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWords - what else would a 'word junkie' pick for a theme.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for 'Awaited". I loved 'Wasteland'.
In the middle of a move, I promise to keep my promise by 3/6. Confused?
BJB
Lynn,
ReplyDeleteYou are such a Blogging Ninja, being able to blog on a daily basis!
I write for a living, so blogging everyday would cause much writing burnout, giving me even less time to devote to my film projects, for which I am most interested in over anything else. It'll be nice to find out about all of the bands or musicians that will be featured on your blog. In the music world, I'm sure there are many mainstream and indie bands who fit that X and Z mold! :)
You've found the secret sauce to happy blogging....writing what one loves. I agree with you. Why do it at all if it's not fun, you know?
If I was blogging about, I don't know, Horseback riding or something like that, I would be a pretty grumpy blogger, for sure. LOL. Now, what am I writing about during the A to Z challenge, you ask?
I am writing about Music, Movies and Parties. Yep!...and that's all I'm going to say about that because you'll just have to visit my blog in April to find out ;)
Further information, however can be found in my Parties, Playlists and Moving Pictures post that I wrote a few weeks ago.
Cheers!

I'm leaning towards "Intuitive Eating from A to Z." I'm going to plan as much as possible so that April will not be too overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I want to be able to read as many blogs as I can during that time as well.
Best of luck everyone!
Themes are fun. My first A-Z will have a theme.

Hi, Loverofwords: awesome. I've not heard of synsthesia. Good question!!
ReplyDeleteHi, Marta. THANKS!! I just love blogging, might be bordering on an addiction. LOL!!! :)
Hi Farawayeyes (BJB!). Word Junkie. I love it!!! I'm glad you enjoyed Wasteland. I'm super excited for Awaited to release in May!! :) Might have to put some of the playlist on during the month of April as long as it falls in line with alphabets! :)
Hi, Nicole: Thanks for stopping by, it's nice to know you! Horseback riding....yeah, that'd be a tough one for me too! LOL!! When I'm writing about things I love, it's just like chatting with friends. So it's all good. :)
Hi, RO: Intuitive Eating from A to Z...sounds interesting. Planning helps. Though I don't do that when I write novels too much, with blogging, it REALLY helps!!! :) Write on, my friend.
Hi, Teresa: Yeah, I'll have to stick with themes. This is my first A to Z challenge, and I'm pretty stoked!! :) Happy BLOGGING!!!!
An A to Z challenge I dare not enter as I can barely find the time to even write a post.
ReplyDeleteLike you, Lynn, I'll be doing my A to Z based on music, but music that is influenced by fantasy. It'll be a tough one to say the least!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for guest posting! I'm looking forward to your theme. I love music, and have very eclective taste. Always happy to meet new bands and find new favorites. Shazam is my most-used app on my iPhone.
My theme is Postcards from Sweden. I'm half Swedish, and spent the first 9 years of my childhood there. I'll be teaching my readers a Swedish word each day, but the rest of the post will be in English. I'm trying to figure out how to imbed an audio file of me pronouncing the word...but that's not my area of expertise, at ALL. I will of course have pictures. I mean, that's what postcards are. Pictures. I'm very excited! I've been doing a lot of the prep, but my co-hosting duties take a big chunk of my blogging time. It's that good busy crazy we're all in this together kinda thing that I thrive on.

My theme is centered around writing related stuff. Can't wait for April.
ReplyDeleteHey Lynn glad I stopped by today. Last year was my first year to do the A-Z and my buddy Alex inpsired me to give it a go. It was a blast! I look forward to seeing your music theme this year...it is still on my list of themes I am narrowing down. See you at the Challenge!
ReplyDeleteHi Peaches Ledwidge: Write on, my friend. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Jamie: Ohhh, that sounds super fun!!! :)
Hi, Tina: Postcards from Sweden. How COOL!!
Hi, Susan: Nice, what kind of writing related stuff? Craft things? Inspiration? Things like that?
Hi, Chuck: See you on the Challenge!!! :)
I just figured out my theme(s) on March 1st, complete with a little post on that day acknowledging that I had exactly one month to get it together. I'm looking forward to the challenge- this is my first A to Z.
ReplyDeleteA2ZMommy and What’s In Between
Hey Lynn for me as well its going to interesting as I am taking it up for ythe first time and I am new writer ...but I write daily about whatever I feeel
ReplyDeleteyou will do goood best of luck :)
As this is my first time in the challenge I am unsure which theme I will follow, I even put a poll up to try to decide. Although my principal pursuit is writing I think I will choose to enlighten readers about the wealth of music that can be found on triple j unearthed :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn - nice to meet you and welcome to the A to Z Challenge. Sounds like you've got it all worked out - it's nice when we finally get a theme worked out - and yours, music, is awesome - good call!
ReplyDeleteAnd...congratulations on Awaited!!

The cover of your new book is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow at blogging daily on a usual basis! I blog four days per week, and that is pushing it for me. I definitely agree, though, that having themes helps get those posts done and takes off the pressure.
