From its inception the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge has been an international event with bloggers from nearly all continents participating. In 2012 we will be joined by jnana from Spill Beans. Jnana blogs from Dubai.
A Real Challenge for the Moody Ones
Image via Wikipedia For some writers, writing is a ritual. They wake up with a fresh mind and sit down typing their daily blogposts as they sip their morning coffee. For other writers, it is a hobby. They wait for that time of the day when there's no urgent work, and then happily spend their free time spilling out their day's energy into writing.
But for me, writing is all about my mood. I could go a month without writing anything, simply because I don't feel like it. Or I could be sitting on the metro after a long, tiring day when I get the sudden urge to write. I could be going to bed when I'd randomly get a new idea for a blogpost, and hurry to write it all before it slips through my very slippery mind.
All of us Moody Writers out there have only one solution to our writing habits: self-discipline. Which is why I have resolved to participate in this April's Blogging from A to Z Challenge. It's time I start dragging the writing by its leash to me, rather than waiting for it to come to me.
I've read of the many different plans my fellow participants are coming up with for this year's Challenge. Frankly, if I don't arrive with a creative theme or unique edge, I'd still be happy with just being able to conquer the hugest challenge of having to post every day.
Thank you for coming up with this idea. I hope to keep up with this challenge and declare myself at the end of it: an un-moodified writer!
And thank you jnana for your interesting take on how bloggers can benefit from Blogging from A to Z. Be sure to stop by jnana's blog at Spill Beans--say hello and maybe become a new follower.
I tend to be a moody writer - some days, I'll do anything (clean the bathroom) to avoid writing. Then I feel depressed because I haven't written anything. So I agree, the A to Z is a great way to practice discipline - even if you only manage a few lines.
ReplyDeleteThat's right - show your writing who's in charge!
ReplyDeleteI think blogging everyday will be a challenge, but well worth it. I'm excited to meet other bloggers from around the world:)
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely blog. I always get ideas for posts when I'm in bed, but never remember to take a notebook and pen with me, and it's too cold to get out of bed so it's forgotten by morning :)
ReplyDeleteBesides the networking benefits, the A-Z Challenge is an excellent way in which to practise posting every day - that requires discipline!
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on what I have to do when I write my blogs. sometimes there's a visit to my daughter. then it's probably in the evening.
ReplyDeleteI already have my A to Z Challenge sorted out.
Yvonne.
Yup, I am a moody writer too. I schedule my posts, but sometimes things have to get rearranged for that mood-thing.
ReplyDeleteHey there, and very nice too meet you! I hear you about mood, and I used to be that way. I got some writing advice from another blogger that helped. He said " JUST WRITE. If you're not writing, you have no chance of producing something good. Even if what you write is total crap, that's OK. 90% of what you write will be crap anyway. So get going." He knows what he's talking about. He's a screen play editor in Hollywood.

Last year's A-to-Z helped me with my Moody Writing! I got better, though not immediately, at working on a better schedule and posting regularly. I wish you luck!
