Hey A to Z bloggers!
I am really excited to be a part of the team this year and I am looking forward to the challenge in April. And that is just what I am here to talk about. (Well of course it is, what else would I talk about on the A to Z blog?)
I know that there have been many comments since the A to Z team was announced this year that bloggers were terrified to do the challenge. Lots of us (myself included) aren’t/ weren’t sure what to blog about starting from A to Z. And I also know that many participants from last year gave encouragement saying things like ‘Once you know what you want to blog about, the rest is as easy as the ABC’s! (Okay I don’t know if anyone Actually said it like that . . . but you get my point).
Well after all the encouragement I forced myself to buck up and think of some really good idea’s to blog about. And guess what! It worked! I know what I am blogging about for the entire month of April. And I am here to help you get some ideas.
What helped me was thinking about what I have posted about before, what posts of mine have gotten the most attention and what information I have that I can give that no one else can. My entire alphabet of posts for April are all based on Inspiration.
Another example: I found a blog all about camping and hiking and doing things related to that. The person running the blog talked about doing the A to Z challenge and that all their posts would be camping related.
So there are two examples to help you out! And here are just a few ideas’ you could use:
Favorite Books/ Authors, Mythology, Mythical creatures, Music, Movies, Writing Experiences, Fairies
Dragons (Yes I am pretty sure you could write 26 posts about Dragons and/or Fairies alone. I know I could write at least that many on Dragons)
Hobbies (of any kind)
The list is never- ending. If you truly cannot think of anything to write about, read the dictionary. (That’s always fun whether you’re doing it for research or fun anyway, and you would be amazed at how many words you can find that you never heard before!)
Best of luck! I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with in April!

ReplyDeleteI have used the dictionary. It does work. Sometimes that is all it takes - to see a word that catches your fancy and your brain just does the rest!
Thanks for your very encouraging post on the A to Z, I have done both and have made many friends along the way, I have my next A to Z all sorted as I am in the middle of promoting my book and coming to the US in Feb, so got it finished over Christmas.Look forward to seeing you around in April.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Thanks, I think I know what I'd like to post about now. And I'm looking forward to it:)
ReplyDeleteIts so much easier when you have a theme. I'll stick with the science theme like last year, but something different and unique. I'm looking forward to the event and meeting new people.
ReplyDeleteI like the theme idea, but alas, I won't be having a theme for the challenge this year. My blog has no particular theme or agenda (other than trying to be funny), so it wouldn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteHaving a theme really helps.
ReplyDeleteThis year I'm going with a theme plan. As I've writing my posts I'm finding the continuity makes it much easier to come up with ideas.

I've got a theme. I think once you come up with a theme, it really becomes quite easy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great post! And yes, the dictionary can be a great help in sparking off ideas...
ReplyDeleteI also think that this year I'll go with a theme... still working on it...
Definitely not terrified to do the challenge. More like hopping up and down with excitement. WHY does April have to be so far away?
ReplyDeleteI too have a theme I will be using. I think a great way to approach the challenge and pick a theme is to look at some topic you have always wanted to write about more. Even if you have a tightly focused blog, there's probably some aspect that has been somewhat neglected. The challenge seems like a great chance to really attack that area of untapped interest from lots of angles.
You're right, Konstanz, the list is never ending. I think there are as many possible themes as there are people!
ReplyDeleteLast year, since I was a last minute addition to the Challenge, I thought I would do something work related but soon found myself going on a different path.
Wonderfully insightful!

Great inspiration for us! Last year I didn't do a theme. Didn't even think of it until I was further into the challenge and started noticing the people who did. That worked OK for me though, because that's just what my blog is: random. I started it to practice writing in hopes of one day being published. However, the theme idea really appealed to me. I'm an immigrant from Sweden, and many of posts (Christmas traditions, for example) are random stories of my Swedish heritage. I've had many people request more stories, so for this year's challenge, I'm calling it "Swedish Postscripts". Each post will be in that category, but I still have the chance to be random, just random, Swedish, on a specific letter.

Last year I really didn't have any common theme to my posts. It was all over the place. hehe. I am not generally a 'planner' so it may be the same this year!
ReplyDeleteA to Z -
ReplyDeleteA for Appalled: I am Appalled at how this writer acts so callous about these children and their plight. She "children cross collapsed bridge".
Just thinking of maybe joining this A to Z.
*This has given me lots of ideas. I've started an A to Z list! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAn A-Z of dragons would be an awesome sight!
ReplyDeleteHaving an overall theme to the A-Z posts does help a lot; it gives a focus that makes finding those fiddly letters (I'm glaring at you, Q and X) easier to work on.
You are a lovely person, Kontanz. I liked your suggestions! jean
ReplyDelete@Retired Knitter,
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
@ Yvonne,
Thank you for the wonderful comment. I am very much looking forward to April!
@Mart Szemilk,
Glad I could help inspire some ideas!
@ Stephen Tremp,
I am trying to go for a theme. There are just so many I want to do. . . .
@Addman,
Perhaps Humor should be your theme. :D
@ Arlee, Alex, and Matthew, Again. . . there are too many themes going through my head! I don't know which one to choose.
@ Mish,
Thanks. And good luck!
@ Joyce Sully,
While I am terrified, I am also pretty excited for April.
@ Jenny @ Pearson Report,
That's my problem. . . the list of idea's is never ending and I can't decide on just one.
And thank you for the compliment.
@ Tina,
That's really interesting and I am really looking forward to reading your posts.
@ Trisha,
I might have to go the same way. No theme. I just can't decide on One!
@ Y U Think,
We would love to have you participate. Hope to see you at the challenge!
@ Dawn Malone,
Glad I could help. You're Welcome!
@ Jamie Gibbs,
I actually thought about doing my entire theme as Dragons. I am a HUGE dragon fan. I collect, I have books about them. I constantly look for new dragon things.
It's still on my list of idea's for April. I haven't decide for sure yet.
@ Jean,
Thank you so much! That really means a lot.

I have some things figured out, and I'll be looking around for any fun words that leap out at me. It helps me to write them down as I come up with them, and to brainstorm and write down as much at once as I can.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas, thanks!
great idea for me

One thing I had not considered when I signed up for the challenge was the number of posts I would actually have to do, I only recently published my 26th post so it will be interesting to exceed that within a month. Time to go theme hunting...
